Advantages and Details about Book Line of Credit (BLOC)

What is a Book Line of Credit?

If your financial aid exceeds your tuition and fee charges, you may purchase your books, course materials, supplies and equipment at the campus bookstore using the Book Line of Credit (BLOC). The BLOC is a short-term, interest-free loan that allows you to use your projected financial aid refund early.

Your financial aid file must be complete with sufficient financial aid funds to use the BLOC. Financial Assistance Services will confirm your financial aid eligibility, including your Satisfactory Academic Progress status.

How much is the BLOC?

The BLOC amount is calculated as follows:

Projected net amount of financial aid
- Tuition & Fees
  Projected refund amount

Projected refund amount = BLOC amount (up to $800.00)

Your projected refund and BLOC amounts may change based on changes in your status, enrollment, use of the First Day Book Program and expected financial aid award(s) or amount(s).

If your Projected net amount of financial aid is not enough to cover your Tuition & Fees, there are not enough funds to provide a BLOC.

Increased BLOC for medical programs

Students in several medical programs will often need more than $800.00. If you are eligible for additional funds using the formula above, your BLOC amount will automatically be increased. The maximum amount is determined by your specific program and projected refund amount (up to $1,600.00 or more). Specific programs include dental, nursing, paramedic and surgical tech.

When is the BLOC available?

BLOC availability is based on your session of enrollment. Beginning and end dates are listed below. If you are in a Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Warning or Academic Plan Status, your BLOC will be available after the prior term ends and your eligibility has been reviewed.

How do I use my BLOC?

The bookstore will have your information on file and will apply your available book charges to your student account. You can use your BLOC in-store or online. Online purchases can be shipped to you or picked up at the campus of your choice. Get details on using your Book Line of Credit to pay online with Barnes & Noble College.

What if I don’t use all of my BLOC?

If you spend your entire BLOC, only spend a portion, or do not use your BLOC, the refund calculation is the same. Your refund will be calculated as follows:

  Net amount of financial aid
- Tuition & Fees

- BLOC amount spent
- First Day Book Program charges
  Refund amount
