The goal of the Dr. Johnnie Ruth Clarke Scholars Program is to support the retention and academic achievement of students who receive the Johnnie Ruth Clarke Scholarship. Our chapter members serve as mentors for these students and support the scholars in both academic and community endeavors.
Summer program
Scholars are inducted at an awards ceremony where they are presented with the Dr. Johnnie Ruth Clarke Scholarship. After receiving the scholarship, a summer event for scholars and their parents is held to introduce the scholar to St. Petersburg College. Representatives from financial aid, advising, student life and leadership, and other college services meet with students and answer questions about the college experience.
Mentoring sessions
Mentoring sessions for scholars are held twice during the academic year, once during the fall term and once during the spring term, but mentors are available to work with students at any point during the year. As with the summer program, representatives from college services are present to address any student concerns. In addition, students are encouraged to work with mentors to address study techniques, time management strategies, and organizational skills to ensure success at St. Petersburg College.
