At SPC, a large part of our mission is to be a Community of Care, which means that we want to make sure that the entire SPC family – students and employees – as well as the surrounding communities, have what they need to lead a healthy and productive life. We go about this in many different ways, including organized community service projects at places like Habitat for Humanity and the St. Petersburg Free Clinic, community enrichment events, accessibility services, programs for our veterans, and partnerships with community organizations, nonprofit groups and educational institutions.

The college has its Volunteer Program and The Center for Civic Learning and Community Engagement at SPC. Volunteers have donated thousands of hours across the college. The center works to engage students, faculty and staff with the community through a wide variety of civic outreach, service learning and volunteer opportunities.

SPC also honors faculty members for their civic and community engagement in their subject areas. These designees have demonstrated their commitment to a Community of Care in areas such as veterans services, education, music, community health, and environmental efforts, to name a few.

We want to be the force in this community that lifts one another up and provides our students with the best possible education they can receive so that they have the opportunities for economic mobility,” said SPC President Dr. Tonjua Williams. “By doing so, we can positively impact the economic health and quality of living for the entire community.”

Areas where we concentrate our efforts include:

Education

Through the Educational Ecosystem and partnerships with Pinellas County Schools and the University of South Florida – St. Petersburg, SPC expands access to educational opportunities in higher education..

Food

SPC offers food banks at our campuses where students can show their IDs and go shopping for snacks or groceries. The college also offers support to local food banks to help out with food drives and distribution.

Environment

SPC students and staff dedicate many hours of their time to cleanups and beautification projects at our local nature preserves, beaches and reefs.

Clothing

Several college locations in the county host clothing closets stocked with business attire from which our students can select items they might need.
