Thank you to the more than 100 faculty and staff who volunteered for Wednesday’s commencement ceremony at Tropicana Field!

SPC’s 145th commencement had more than 1250 students and their friends and families in attendance.

SPC President Dr. Tonjua Williams opened the ceremony by recognizing the students for their hard work, and also recognized faculty for their part in helping students across the finish line.

“Without a doubt, those here at St. Petersburg College who play the most critical role in the lives of our students are members of the St. Petersburg College faculty. They are dedicated, experienced, and inspiring individuals who are committed to teaching, nurturing and guiding our students on a daily basis. They also contribute personally to the national standing and reputation this College enjoys. Thank you, faculty, for investing in our students – for lifting them up and significantly contributing to achieving their dreams,” said Dr. Williams.

From veterans to being parents and/or first in their family to attain a degree, many SPC students have overcome numerous obstacles on their way to donning their blue caps and gowns.

Among the 1,379 Spring 2024 graduates, 200 were the first in their families to graduate with a college degree.

The ceremony also included the first Florida African American Male Experience (FAAME) program cohort with seven graduates.
