Through the Open Door grant program, you can complete short-term training for high-demand jobs in as little as six weeks for FREE. This opportunity covers 100% of tuition and fees for eligible programs after all other federal and state financial aid is applied. To qualify, you must be a Florida resident. Scholarships are offered on a first come, first served basis while funding is available.
Audio Production Certificate
The Audio Production and Engineering Certificate prepares students for the workforce in the field of Audio Production, Audio Engineering, and Live Sound. It includes courses in Apple Mac Foundations, Digital Audio Workstations, Sound, Acoustics, Studio Recording, Critical Listening, Live Sound, and an internship experience. This program is 24 credits and is financial aid eligible. It functions as a standalone certificate leading to workforce opportunities, and it also functions as an achievement for those who continue on to complete the Music Industry/Recording Arts AS degree.
Digital Media Video Production Certificate
This certificate is designed to prepare students to produce complex digital video tape presentations for ‘on’ or ‘off’ air. Students will be exposed to hands-on training in several aspects of digital videography including: professional video camera operation, on and off-line editing, scripting, lighting, program directing and producing.
Digital Photography Certificate
The photography certificate is designed to equip students with the essentials and basic skill sets to succeed in the photographic industry. The program will prepare students in marketing their specific photographic brand, and the ability to conceptualize their clients objective needs, and deliver a technically proficient photographic product to them.

Applied Engineering Technology A.S. Degree
This A.S. degree is a sequence of instruction with four sub plans to choose from: electronics, Lean Six Sigma quality, advanced manufacturing, and digital design and modeling. All applied engineering technology students take a common core of six classes (18 credit hours) that gives them a background in safety, quality assurance, metrology, CAD, electronics, and materials. Students will start taking classes in their sub plan right away along with their core and general education courses. There are opportunities to gain industry certifications, attend guest lectures, participate in field trips to local employers, and network with other students. Internships are also available and required for electronics, advanced manufacturing, and digital design and modeling.
Biomedical Engineering Tech A.S. Degree
The Associate of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology prepares students for employment in a healthcare field in electronics. The program has a strong electronics workforce focus, including industry tours, professional association meetings, and technical workshops by industry leaders in the manufacturing of medical technology. Biomedical Engineering Technology provides students a chance to work directly with equipment and in environments where they can make a difference in someone's quality of life. The two sub plans associated with the BMET-AS degree program are Medical Device Networking and Cybersecurity, and Medical Device Design and Manufacturing.
Computer-Aided Design and Drafting Certificate
Students who earn SPC's 24-credt-hour (8-class) Computer-Aided Design and Drafting Certificate will gain the skills needed to assist engineers in planning, designing and detailing. Courses also prepare students for industry certifications in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.

This program offers a sequence of courses in electronics that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in manufacturing and electronics.

Field Survey Tech Certificate
The Field Survey Technician Certificate prepares students for employment as surveyors, civil engineering technicians, or surveyor helpers or to provide supplemental training for persons previously or currently employed in these occupations.
Lean Six-Sigma Green Belt Certificate
Learn to minimize waste and improve quality in businesses through Six Sigma and Lean principles. This certificate focuses on the concepts, theories and tools of the Lean Enterprise and Six Sigma concepts used in the manufacturing and service industries. Lineworker Training
This training provides students with the fundamental knowledge and basic practical skills needed when seeking a career opportunity in the electric utility industry as a line worker trainee. The training leads to a Class-A Commercial Driver's License (CDL), OSHA 10 certification, and CPR & AED qualifications.
Mechatronics Certificate
This certificate includes instruction in robotics, pneumatics, motors and controls, automation and censors and programmable logic controllers. This new college credit certificate for Medical Device Manufacturing and Design is designed to provide students with skills to work for a medical device manufacturer.
Medical Device Networking and Cybersecurity Certificate

Medical Equipment Repair Certificate
This certificate can get students quickly into the medical device field, where they will maintain and repair sophisticated medical equipment like patient monitors, defibrillators, electrocardiograms, ultrasounds and x-ray machines. Upon completion of the specified courses, students will be prepared to take the Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician certification exam.
PMMI Mechatronics Certification: Fluid Power Training
This course explains the fundamental concepts of fluid power and electro-fluid power systems. Covers the principles of fluid power, calculations of physical properties of fluids and their ability to do work. Introduces the various fluid power components, symbols, circuits. Introduces troubleshooting of fluid power components and systems with an emphasis on safety. Addresses fluids, filters, reservoirs, piping, pumps, actuators, accumulators, control valves, and combination circuits.
PMMI Mechatronics Certification: Industrial Electricity 2 Training
This course introduces the various elements of basic electricity including the identification of electrical symbols as well as interpretation of schematics, cross referencing prints, tracing circuits, interpreting sequential function charts, line drawings and time charts. Introduces the student to electrical measurement instruments, including digital and analog multimeters, clamp-on ammeters, megohmeters, and the oscilloscope. Concentrates on control logic components and circuit function. Introduces the student to solid state devices and applications.
PMMI Mechatronics Certification: Programable Logic Controlers (PCLs) 2 Training
This course introduces Allen-Bradley Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and elements needed for an automated industrial control system. Introduces memory and project organization within a PLC and provides instruction in basic numbering systems, computer and PLC terminology. Introduces PLC control functions, program structures, language standards, wiring and troubleshooting methods, as well as, real world communications. Requires the student to program a PLC which may include a combination of ladder logic, structured text, sequential function chart and/or function block languages. Includes various protocols of industrial communications used between PLC controlled machines, PLC to PLC, PLC to computer, and computer to computer.
Rapid Prototyping Certificate
This certificate provides a program of study with courses in solid modeling, using SolidWorks. By completing this certificate, the students will provide the technical expertise for the engineering activities of industry in planning, designing, and detailing for Rapid Prototyping.

Soldering: IPC-A-610 CIS Certification Training
The IPC-A-610 Training Program provides individuals with a valuable, portable credential that recognizes their understanding of the Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies. The certification is required throughout the medical, aerospace and military manufacturing industry as a condition of employment. Students will learn the following: Policy and procedure, soldering and high voltage, component damage and PCBAs, Terminals, through-hole technology and jumper wires, surface mount and jumper wires, and hardware.
Soldering: IPC-3-STD-001 CIS Certification Training
The J-STD-001 CIS Training Program (Operator) provides individuals with a valuable, portable credential that recognizes their advanced knowledge and understanding of the Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies. This certification is the gold standard, required throughout the medical, aerospace and military manufacturing industry as a condition of employment. In this modularized program, the student will learn advanced lessons in the following areas: Requirements of the J-STD-001, wires and terminals, PCB, coating, encapsulation and staking, through-hole technology, surface mount, and inspection.
Certified Phlebotomy Technician Training
The phlebotomist is a vital member of the clinical laboratory team, whose main function is to obtain patient’s blood specimens venipuncture and microcollection for testing purposes.
Certified Patient Care Technician Training
Prerequisite: High School Diploma/ GED or College Transcripts. Successfully pass a background/drug screening and must be 18 years of age. The Patient Care Technician provides hands-on assistance to serve patient’s needs, as well as work alongside doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers. Patient Care Technicians may perform basic patient care: bathing, feeding, catheter care, obtaining EKG readings, and monitoring vital signs. Upon completion of the course, students will be eligible to take the PCT exams through the National Healthcare Association (NHA).
Certified Clinical Medical Assistant Training
Prerequisite: High School Diploma/ GED or College Transcripts. Successfully pass background/drug screening and must be 18 years of age. This course prepares you to become a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) through the National Healthcare Association (NHA). The program includes an optional 80-hour (unpaid) externship. Graduates perform both clinical and administrative duties under the direction of physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants. CCMA’s typically work in medical offices, clinics, and urgent care centers and may work in general medicine or specialty practices.
Emergency Medical Services A.S. Degree
The A.S. degree is available to certified paramedics with transferable credit. The paramedic is an allied health professional whose primary focus is to provide advanced emergency medical care for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the complex knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Paramedics function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Paramedics perform interventions with the basic and advanced equipment typically found on an ambulance. The paramedic is a link from the scene into the health care system.
Emergency Medical Technician ATD
The primary focus of the Emergency Medical Technician Applied Technology Diploma is to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. Emergency Medical Technicians perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. Students who complete the training receive a diploma of completion and are eligible to take either the State of Florida examination for certification or National Registry exam for certification as an EMT-Basic.
Health Services Certificate
The courses necessary to earn a certificate in Health Care Services and to be eligible for certification examination in Excel Spreadsheets are a part of the A.S. Health Sciences degree plan. Students may earn the certificate in Health Care Services and become eligible for certification examination in Excel Spreadsheets without completing the A.S. degree.
Healthcare Data Management Certificate
This certificate prepares students for employment as entry level Data Management Specialists and also provides supplemental training for persons previously or currently employed in related health record or information technology occupations. Graduates will be prepared to take the Certified Coding Associate (CCA) credential.
Medical Coding and Revenue Management Certificate
This certificate is designed to provide a student with the skills necessary to transform medical diagnoses, procedures and injuries into designated numerical codes. A medical coder is an individual who analyzes medical records and assigns codes to classify diagnoses and procedures to support revenue cycle, assessment of clinical care, and medical research activity. This program will prepare the student to take the Certified Associate in Healthcare Information & Management Systems credential.
Paramedic Certificate
This certificate is designed to produce paramedics, whose job description involves advanced life support, to deliver the pre-hospital, life support care and transportation necessary for victims of accident and emergency illness. Students who complete the training receive a diploma of completion and are eligible to take the State of Florida examination for certification or national registry exam for certification as a Paramedic. The goal of SPC's program is to assist students in preparing for licensure in the state of Florida.
Applied Mental Health Certificate
This undergraduate certificate will provide retired officers, current officers, other first responders, and students, the curricular experience to pursue careers in mental health counseling, psychology, and allied human services. This A.S. degree is designed for students to build, maintain, and manage an integrated network, utilizing the latest networking technologies, to implement network security measures, and to develop analytical and troubleshooting skills to resolve common network issues locally or in the cloud. This program prepares students to sit for the CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Linux+, CompTIA Cloud Essentials+, and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) industry certifications depending upon which program pathway is selected. Web Development Specialist Certificate
This certificate program is designed to introduce students to a variety of skills necessary to code, test, and debug dynamic websites and web applications. In the initial courses, students are introduced to HyperText Markup Language (HTML), Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), development tools, and the application of best practices. Students will also learn skills needed for Front-End Web Development using JavaScript.

You must be considered a Florida resident for tuition purposes and be enrolled as a degree-seeking student in an eligible program listed on this webpage. Enroll and check your degree-seeking status in Titan Hub and select MySPC.
How much will the grant cover?
The program funds 100% of tuition and fees for eligible students, plus books, course materials, supplies and equipment as last dollar funding after other federal or state financial aid or an employer or other agency covers tuition and fees. Funded students may also receive an additional stipend to cover other expenses associated with their attendance. Completion of the FAFSA is recommended, but is not required.
How often to do I need to submit this form?
Submit an application once per academic year to be considered for fall, spring and/or summer funds.
How long will it take to review the application?
When and how will I be notified? Applications are reviewed within 14 business days. We will email your MySPC student email once your application has been reviewed. If you are awarded funds, log in to Titan Hub and select MySPC to see your award. You can also Check Your Status.
If I’m due a refund, when and how will I get it?
The funds will first cover any balance due to the college. Any remaining funds are refunded at the end of the fourth week of classes of the earliest session you are enrolled in. Open Door funds can reimburse a student for a payment made out of pocket. If you are enrolled in only Express or Second 8 Week session, your financial aid will be refunded at the end of the fourth week of that session.
